Frequently Asked Questions... About My Mental Illness

What is Depression?

Definition: Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest and can interfere with your daily functioning.

As for me, my particular brand of Depression is up in the air these days. It's at least Clinical Depression, something considered very impairing and typically treated with meds and therapy, but when you add Anxiety and Panic Disorder, Morbid Obesity, Food Addiction, and Binge Eating Disorder it definitely makes things way more intense and extremely difficult to overcome.

What is Binge Eating Disorder, is it dangerous?

First, it's an Eating Disorder. Eating Disorders, by themselves, are the most dangerous of all the Metal Illnesses you can be diagnosed with. More people diagnosed with an Eating Disorder die from their disease than those diagnosed with any other Mental Illness. With Binge Eating Disorder you feel compelled to overeat, you can't think of anything else if you haven't consumed the food you are fixated on. Food Addiction makes this even worse. However, if you replace the bad foods you're addicted to with super healthy foods you'll still binge eat because you're too used to extreme overeating.

Explain Anxiety vs Panic Disorder, what's the difference?

Well, I basically have both so... that's fun! Anxiety is a more manageable version of the two whereas Panic Disorder is pretty intense and leads to regular and terrifying panic attacks. Anxiety can get you there, to the terrible land of panic, but there's a whole extra evil when you get these things daily/weekly - which would be considered more Panic Disorder instead of Anxiety.
